The Cornflower Blue pattern, which features three blue cornflower blossoms surrounded by leaves, was produced from 1957-1988 and has become the iconic, simple yet elegant floral design associated with Corning Ware cookware. The casserole dish is made of Pyroceram, a glass ceramic material originally developed by Corning in the 1950s for use in rocket nosecones, thus it is impervious to extreme temperatures. Pyroceram, debuting in 1957 as Corning Ware Cookware, was marketed as safe for broiler, oven, stovetop, refrigerator, and freezer; when microwave cookers were produced it was deemed as safe for their use too. The cornflower pattern was discontinued after 1988 and replaced with the pattern “Country Cornflower”. This casserole is an excellent gift for a collector of vintage items!
